FAQs

Does Cheap Toilet Paper Clog Toilets?

Cheap toilet rolls won't clog toilets so long as you flush regularly after you wipe. In fact, if you purchase cheap toilet paper with a 1-ply thickness level, they will actually break down easier than a toilet roll with a 3 ply thickness due to less layers of paper being incorporated during the manufacturing process of the product.

Is Cheap Toilet Roll Different to Branded Toilet Paper?

No. Cheap toilet rolls offer the same, if not better, properties than branded toilet roll. The difference usually lies between the level of ply in each sheet of paper and the price. Most cheap toilet rolls have 2-ply thickness which is the same as branded alternatives and are less expensive than the leaders you see in the market.

Does Cheap Toilet Paper Expire?

In short, toilet paper can expire however, despite the expiration date that is listed on the packaging of your cheap toilet paper, the product lasts for much longer than you may expect. As long as you don't get the cheap toilet roll wet or allow dust and dirt to formulate on the product, it can last years or even decades.

How Many Toilet Rolls Does the Average Person Use?

Generally speaking, most people use the toilet between 4-10 times a day with the average person said to use approximately seven sheets per wipe. So, if you were to use the toilet five times per day with seven sheets per wipe, then the average person uses about 35 sheets of toilet roll per day.

How Many Toilet Rolls Does A Family Need?

It is fairly obvious but the bigger the family, the more toilet rolls you will need - especially if you are a household with young children who use the toilet more regularly or are more liable to spillages. An average family of four can go through a cheap toilet roll containing 350 sheets in approximately 2-3 days so it is best to judge how much you need based on this statistic.

How Much Cheap Toilet Paper Should You Keep on Hand?

Even cheap toilet paper has a very long shelf life, so it is heavily advised to keep a spare supply of toilet roll in case of emergencies. Because of the lasting shelf life, many businesses can store multiple quantities of toilet roll which is ideal for employee bathrooms or any other application which may require toilet paper.

What Are ‘Other’ Uses For Cheap Toilet Rolls?

Wiping is obviously the number one use for cheap toilet rolls, but there are numerous other scenarios where it can be useful. Examples include:

Blowing your nose - Toilet roll is perfectly suitable to blow your nose, especially during the flu season.
Cleaning bathroom surfaces - Toilet roll can be handy to wipe down surfaces such as countertops and toilet seats.
Covering public toilet seats - Public washrooms can be incredibly dirty, so by placing toilet paper on the toilet seat, you can reduce the contact between your skin has on the toilet.
Cleaning glasses - Toilet paper can be used to wipe away smudges and fingerprints on eyeglasses if you don't have a microfibre cloth present.

Should Toilet Roll be Over or Under?

There has been much controversy as to whether toilet paper should hang ‘over’ the toilet roll or under/behind. Experts have suggested that the ‘over’ variant is the most hygienic as it means your fingers touch only what is needed during your toiletry use.

How Long Do Cheap Toilet Rolls Take To Dissolve?

First of all, different brands of loo roll dissolve quicker/slower than others but generally speaking, cheap toilet rolls can take anywhere from one to four minutes to fully dissolve. This is so it can pass through pipes or septic systems without causing clogs or blockages.

Why Does Toilet Paper Have an Expiration Date?

Toilet paper has an expiration date primarily for quality assurance rather than safety. Over time, the paper can degrade due to factors such as humidity, light exposure, and the natural breakdown of cellulose fibers. An expiration date helps ensure that the product maintains its intended softness, strength, and effectiveness. While expired toilet paper is generally safe to use, it may become less pleasant in texture or may not perform as well. Manufacturers include these dates to encourage consumers to use the product while it is at its best.

Why is Toilet Paper White?

Toilet paper is typically white because it undergoes a bleaching process during manufacturing. This process not only gives it a clean, bright appearance but also removes any natural colour from the pulp, which can be derived from various types of wood. The white colour is often associated with cleanliness and hygiene, making it visually appealing to consumers.

Why is it Called Tissue Paper?

The word "tissue" refers to a thin, delicate material made from finely processed pulp. The term originated from the French word "tissue," which means "woven" or "fabric." Tissue paper is characterised by its softness, absorbency, and lightweight nature, making it ideal for various hygiene applications.
